V General Service Respirator was developed in 1939 by the United Kingdom as an improvement of the Mk. IV General Service Respirator which removed the layer of Stockinette over the mask which made the mask cheaper to produce in a war torn economy. V GSR features either a Stockinette-covered or a non-Stockinette-covered rubber hose connected to a plethora of filters, this being a Type E Mk. IV dated 1942 by the Toronto Macdonald Plant, a Mk. V Valve Guard, Mk. III B Eyepieces (Unofficial Designation), and a No. III Head harness by Kaufman dated February 1942. The carrier to the Canadian Mk. V would be the Mk. Va, Mk. Vi, or Mk. ViI, with this example being a VII dated 1943.

&####127464;&####127462; Canadian Respirator, Anti-Gas, Mk. IV T-Mic dated August 1943 by Dominion Rubber Company Lot 542 size small. The Canadian Production Mk. IV General Service Respirator being an exact copy of the British Mk. IV alongside the Canadian copy of the Mk. V GSR and the Respirator Anti-Gas Light series as a means to modernize the Canadian Armed Forces Equipment. An officer in the Canadian Armed Forces, Major G. Morrison, thought of the idea of simply importing British Respirators to Canada to improve Canadian Anti-Gas equipment as most of what they were using at the time were Small Box Respirators, though this idea was shut down as Canada had a much greater interest in producing their own equipment. After much trial and error they finally were able to secure the plans to produce Mk. IV GSR masks via the Safety Supply Company in 1932 to work together in the production of said masks. The British Armed Forces Military GSR Gas Mask is a collectible piece of militaria from the United Kingdom. This listing includes two filters and Gasmask Haversack. The interior of the haversack has been written on by it’s previous owners. The included filters have likely expired and as such shouldn’t be used with the mask for safety purposes. The mask is in good condition and would function fine if you are able to source replacement filters. The interior drinking straw is not present in this listing.

We came across one of these beauties. A late 1920’s M1A1 US Service Respirator. Packing list dated 7/29. In almost pristine condition for being almost 100 years old, with original packing slip!
