Is a HEPA style filter component and would not be ineffective until it would be clogged from use. Mask works for what you may need it for now, and is a good piece of mind to be covered for almost all other threats as well if need be. I have extra filters listed as well of you need more. Filters also Fit all brands of US and NATO masks that use std 40mm NATO fitting, and adapters are avail online to use these superior filters for a lot of other types of basic painter type masks that take basic cartridges. Most experts state that expired filters can still work even for CBRN protection (chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear) far after the exp date if unopened and stored properly. It may be a US vs EU difference, but the box on these masks shows size 2, which is a Lg for US sizes. The EU chart on websites shows size 2 as “Med/lg”, and size 1 as L. The numbers on the box from this mask and from US charts show size 2 as L, not Med/Lg. However, Med/Lg honestly makes more sense than L in my opinion. The reason I say that, is that I wear a lg in Avon C50, my son a small. We both fit tested the Frr for fit and seal, and size 2 fits both of us well. The Med Avon I had bought orig for my son was way too big, so we got him a small. The med was way to tight for me (under chin mainly) so I bought a large. Unless you have a very small face, the size 2 in this Frr mask I would say would fit well. This is a more universal fit that others out there.
