British S6 Gas Mask Respirator with Filter and Bag Rare Left Hand version NBC
British S6 Gas Mask with Filter and Bag. This is a rare left hand version of the mask with the filter mounted on the opposite side of the face piece. These were made to allow left handed soldiers to be able to shoulder their weapon while wearing the mask. Relatively early production date of 1972, made by Leyland & Birmingham Rubber Company. The S6 was used by British armed forces from the late 1960s into the late 1980s. This type of mask was made famous through its use by the SAS during Operation Nimrod (the Iranian Embassy Siege). Condition of the mask is good overall. The rubber is supple and there are no tears or perishing. The rear straps still function, but there is some light surface corrosion on the metal fittings of the strap. The lens are clear and unscratched. The bag is in well worn condition, with several relatively faint stains, but no holes or substantial damage. RESPIRATOR / GAS MASK. The M48 was issued exclusively to US Army AH-64 “Apache” helicopter crews. While the general aviators (all helicopters except Apache) use the M49 mask. The mask was issued to replace the M43 in service. Form-fitting facepiece with lenses mounted close to the eyes; an integrally attached CB hood and skull-type suspension system; an inhalation air distribution assembly for regulating the flow of air to the oronasal cavity, lenses, and hood; a pressure compensated exhalation valve assembly for maintaining overpressure in the mask/hood; an electronic microphone; and a portable motor/blower filter assembly which operates on either battery or aircraft power. The mask provides the required CB protection and allows for compatibility with the AH-64 Integrated Helmet and Display Sighting System and the Optical Relay Tube. The mask is lightweight, comfortable and provides a close fit and tight seal around the face. A nose cup is incorporated for reduced fogging of the facepiece. That material is impermeable to chemical agents such as mustard, providing maximum assurance. Meets NIOSH CBRN standard. This is a real complete Mickey Mouse gasmask from ww2/wwII. It’s made for children use and were for kids in UK. The name comes from the American Mickey Mouse who was actually designed by Walt Disney. The story for the US mask was to make kids want to wear it because it’s Mickey Mouse and not a scary respirator. UK designed their mask with sharp colors so it looked more friendly. Later they also called it Mickey Mouse, but it never made sense and not even today because there is non Mickey Mouse look at the mask. This is a non used gasmask with intact filter. UK used blue asbestos in their mask, also activated charcoal and this mask contains it. Paper, instructions, mask and box are in the one of the finest shapes you can find and is a valuable historical piece from ww2.
