Ww1 U. S. C. E. M. Respirator Doughboy Gas Mask
Respirator doughboy gas mask, haversack, and instructions/log book. Haversack is in decent shape considering age and use. All the straps and snaps are intact and solid as well. There is some penning on the inside of the flap as shown. The mask is in decent shape as well but is brittle. Straps still adjust and are solidly secured to the mask yet. There are a few tears, but they are under the chin and in the cheek folds and not really visible while displayed. The rubber lining is very brittle and a good amount of it has cracked and flaked off and continues to. The lenses of the mask are good, just surface scratches. No cracks, breaks, or warps. The rubber inside the hose has dried and is solid. Not really any flex left in it. It is cracked inside the fabric in spots and seperated in one spot indicated in the picture but the surrounding fabric is still flexible and intact. Some paint missing from the canister but no rust and fairely decent as well. The mask overall is a bit brittle and needs to be handled with care, as you would expect given it’s age. With that said there is still some pretty good flex in the mask if you are ginger with it, it can still be opened, manipulated, and used for display such as a mannequin display, and still displays overall very nicely.
