Hello – For you consideration, a VERY nice example of a WW 2 British Civilian Duty Respirator / Air raid Precaution mask. As issued to civilians defense during WW2 in Britain. Other than storage wear which is very minor, this one is by far, the nicest example I’ve ever seen outside of a museum, probably un-issued. Rubber face mask is nice and supple, very flexible. No tears or holes, near perfect. Stamped BRF/R 31/3/44 March 31, 1944. A rubber stamp to the right of the date reads as “NORMAL”. Canvas and black elastic straps are near perfect, one or two minor threads hanging but otherwise no fraying. Adjusting buckles appear to be in great shape. Strap clamp appear to be various makers, some have minor surface corrosion, others are fine. I can see “NEWEY 1936″ and “WHB 1938″. Back head brace a bit stiff, but pliable without a problem. 4 III, B 3/42, PAT. 296, 493, & 305, 080. Eye pieces show now issues at all, very clear. Metallic eyepiece inserts have faint manufacture’s marking which i can’t see too well, but I do see years 8-1937 on both. There is very minor cracking in rubber mask where eye pieces are located due to the material being pulled tight when the eye pieces were inserted. Nose air escape and fixture in awesome shape, on underneath there are also markings. Clamp holding filter in place in excellent shape. What is very interesting about this model is on the mask’s left side, just behind the filter, one can see the rubber mold for where the military version would be cut for the filter mount on the side. Comes with the military carrier, this is missing it’s strap. This is beyond a doubt the nicest example of this mask I’ve ever seen. In my collection for almost 30 years, it is time to part with it. Any and all questions welcome, thanks for looking.
