VINTAGE 1942 CIVILIAN DUTY RESPIRATOR (CD) GAS MASK PLUS GREEN CANVAS BUTTON CLOSE BAG. SEE PHOTOS FOR CONDITION AND MEASUREMENT APPROXIMATION. THE MASK HAS MATERIAL AND RUBBER WITH A FILTER. THE MATERIAL IS AGED. THE EYES ARE METAL AND GLASS = THERE IS DISCOLORATION OF THE METAL AROUND THE CLEAR GLASS. THERE IS MARKINGS ON THE INTERIOR OF THE UNIT INFORMATION. THERE IS MARKINGS ON THE OUTSIDE WITH ASSUMED THE SIZE. THIS IS VINTAGE AND IN FAMILY FOR MANY MANY YEARS. ORIGINAL OWNER (FAMILY ESTATE). SMOKE PET FREE ENVIRONMENT. RESEARCHED THE BACKGROUND OF THIS TREASURE HERE IS WHAT WE FOUND FOR YOU REFERENCE. BACKGROUND FOUND ON INTERNET. Whilst often believed to be a wartime design, the Civilian Duty began its conception in the hands of Major. Sadd in the late 1920s. Early prototype Civilian Duty respirators can be seen in a patent filed by Sadd on the 30th October 1928. Eventually this did arrive and so now it is time to sell it on – you no longer have to go through the wait that I did! This mask looks to still be an excellent condition – no marks, scratches or markings left by its previous owner like you often see with these masks with no parts replaced by myself since I received it. The red’X’ stickers on the lens are removeable and used to help the (potential) user to fit the mask correctly, by matching up their eyes with the location of the X with the help of an observer. This therefore implies to me that this mask has not been used before, but as I have not been the sole owner of this I can not confirm this, hence why I have listed it as’used’. There is a noticeable strong non rubber / almost chemical cleaning smell noticeable when wearing this mask. As a reminder, this is a British made respirator so sizing is different/opposite to US gas masks. As I found on a website on Avon respirators. A general rule for determining size, is to know your hat size this can be done by measuring the circumference of your head (run the tape around the forehead area). Hat Size: 54/55cm = Small 56/57cm = Medium 58/59cm = Large 60/61cm = XL 62/63cm = XXL. Small = No4 Medium = No3 Large = No2 XL = No1. I personally wear a size 7.5 hat (61 cm). I was able to perform the negative pressure test in this mask on this mask and it passed (cover the inlet port and inhale – the mask collapses into my face with no leakage anywhere). My eyes also lined up appropriately as indicated in the last picture size guide as well as the red X stickers on the lenses, so I believe the guide/chart I found to be accurate. I was able to perform the negative pressure test in this mask on this mask and it passed (cover the inlet port and inhale – the mask collapses into my face with no leakage anywhere). My eyes also lined up appropriately as indicated in the last picture size guide as well as the red X stickers on the lenses, so I believe the guide/chart I found to be accurate.
