&####127482;&####127474; United States Corrected English Type Box Respirator dated 1917 lot 432059-C size 3. The Corrected English Type Box Respirator was developed in October of 1917 as an improved model of the American Small Box Respirator, which itself was an American clone of the British Small Box Respirator of 1916. The improvements seen on the Corrected English Mask lie in the facepiece, filter, lenses, and harness system. The corrected english mask is made of a cotton sailcloth facepiece with rubberized sealant coating the interior, with the hose normally being an 18-inch style rubberized corrugated hose that connects to either a Type G, Type H, Type L, or Type G Canister if we are strictly speaking of 1918 style canisters, as the earlier models used in around 1917 would possibly be the Type D, Type E, and Type F canisters, though this is simply speculation. The carrier for this mask is an MI chest carrier, developed in 1917 by a plethora of manufacturers, and being made of a sort of waterproof duck canvas and features a singular strap system which would be worn around the neck with the front of the carrier facing the soldiers chest for easier donning of the mask. The later models of corrected English masks would feature a plastic style of lenses and thinner valve bracket as opposed to the thick glass lenses and thicker valve bracket. The accessories for this mask are an Anti-Dimming composition, and an issue card which would hold repair tape and occasionally a pin for adjusting the harness, though this was removed when the adjustable harness for the late models of CE was developed. Carrier has a name crossed out.
